New Inlays from Tageos Powered by the Impinj M700 Series

Tageos recently launched four next-gen RAIN RFID inlays based on the Impinj M700 series. We sat down with Matthieu Picon, Tageos CEO, to learn more.

Impinj partner Tageos  launched four next-gen RAIN RFID inlays: the EOS-300 M730 and M750, and EOS-430 M730 and M750, powered by Impinj M700 series tag chips. These new inlays feature increased sensitivity and improved read-range and performance, plus advanced data-protection features, making them ideal for incumbent markets in retail, supply chain management, and more.

We sat down with Matthieu Picon, Tageos CEO, to hear about the process, their partnership with Impinj, and what differentiates these inlays from the rest.

What can you tell us about your new inlays that are based on the Impinj M700 series?

By November 2020, we launched four new inlays based on the new Impinj M700 series—all at once, and that fact alone underlines the importance that the new ICs from Impinj have for the portfolio we offer to our customers. These new RAIN RFID products are EOS-300 and EOS-430 type inlays that are available with Impinj M730 and M750 ICs. Those inlays have distinctive form factors, with the EOS-300 being the compact and the EOS-430 being the slim solution for the individual demand of the respective applications such as supply chain management in retail.

What differentiates these RAIN RFID inlays from other inlays?
First of all, we’ve been one of the first RFID inlay manufacturers globally to satisfy the relevant ARC specification for Impinj M700-based products. Our new RAIN RFID inlays reinforce and stand-out through their design and quality, and the specific advanced features the Impinj M700 series provides–features that the EOS-300 and EOS-430 support. In this combination, customers can now benefit from the advanced next-generation technology which allows high-speed inventory management, loss prevention with frictionless self-checkout, and seamless product returns.
Compared to the overall RFID market, our inlays differentiate through the innovative inhouse design capabilities, the ARC-certified product quality, as well as our sustainability focus and strength that Tageos is already known for.

Matthieu Picon, Tageos CEO

Can you tell us more about what you have done around sustainability?

From the very beginning of Tageos, our RFID inlays and tags have minimized waste and the use of plastics. We continue to follow our ambition to supply truly sustainable projects, with 100% commitment to the highest ecological values with no compromise. Our inlays, especially those parts of our product family based on the Impinj M700 series, with smaller chip sizes and improved assembly processes, are a great fit to ensure the lowest possible environmental impact.

How do these new inlays perform, compared to other inlays or older models?
From a commercial perspective, we see these new products being very successful already in their incumbent markets in retail, supply chain management applications for example. From a technical perspective, those new inlays also excel through increased sensitivity and improved read-range and performance, plus advanced data-protection features, just to name a few.

What applications were these inlays designed for?
Originally, both the EOS-300 and EOS-430 type inlays were developed to provide superior solutions for challenging retail apparel and retail supply chain applications such as omnichannel fulfillment or contactless checkout.
On top of that, we are convinced that the new products are also a perfect fit for growing market segments such  as logistics and healthcare, the later might prove to be particularly important against the background of COVID-19 supply chain and inventory management solutions required, but of course, not to limit it to that in healthcare and pharmaceutical applications.

How long does it take, to go from the starting concept to antenna design to finished inlay? How long does the entire process take?
Product development cycles vary depending on multiple factors and requirements. Nevertheless, let me put it this way: Tageos’ combination of short and very flexible internal alignment processes, along with our highly motivated and skilled product development and engineering team tightly connected to our onsite manufacturing facilities makes us what people sometimes would like to call “pretty damned fast”. And seriously, I believe our product speed-to-market is one of our key strengths which of course is very important for timelines overall, but also when it comes to related development costs and availability of customized products.
