CEO Letter: Impinj Enters Patent Settlement and License Agreement with NXP
Impinj CEO Chris Diorio comments on successful outcomes for Impinj and RAIN community
To our partners and customers in the RAIN RFID community,
I’m pleased to share that Impinj has successfully settled our patent disputes with NXP, concluding a multi-year series of legal proceedings.
As one of the founders and leaders of the RAIN industry, we are committed to free and fair competition. We maintain our unwavering support for global, royalty-free standards, and we believe that upholding intellectual property rights is an important way to encourage continued innovation that will ensure the industry thrives. As CEO of Impinj, I take my responsibility to protect Impinj’s inventions seriously.
The settlement terminates all pending legal proceedings, releases each company from liability for past patent infringement, and licenses each company’s patents to the other. It also releases resellers and end users from infringement claims for the sale or use of the companies’ UHF RFID products before the date of the agreement. I believe that this settlement reflects the best outcome for Impinj and the wider RAIN industry because it alleviates the ambiguity, uncertainty, and risk related to these ongoing patent disputes.
We look forward to continuing our focus on inventing new products and solutions that support our customers’ needs now and into the future as we pursue our mission to connect every thing.
