Impinj Introduces Few-Time Programmable Logic Nonvolatile Memory Solution

AEON®/FTP Expands Application of Logic Nonvolatile Memory beyond Traditional One-Time and Multiple-Time Programmable Solutions.

Seattle, WA April 21, 2008 - Leading logic nonvolatile memory (NVM) intellectual property (IP) supplier, Impinj, Inc., today announced the introduction of the AEON®/FTP family of logic nonvolatile memory IP at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation’s 130, 90, and 65 nm process nodes.

Targeted at applications that require up to 100 write-erase cycles, AEON/FTP is drawing strong interest from leading companies in the wireless networking, digital content protection, and precision analog markets. At double the density of industry-leading, multiple-time programmable solutions, system architects may now integrate 100% testable, field programmable nonvolatile storage into their integrated circuit designs more cost effectively than ever.

"For a wide range of applications, traditional one-time programmable memories are too restrictive, and multiple-time programmable memories are too costly," said Larry Morrell, vice president and general manager of IP products at Impinj. "The AEON/FTP product exactly meets the needs of designers looking for the flexibility of MTP but who do not need thousands of write-erase cycles."

"Impinj clearly has been listening to their customers who are clamoring for a better way to bridge the OTP/MTP gap," said Rich Wawrzyniak senior analyst at Semico. "This product lowers cost for those currently using MTP by doubling the density, while at the same time reducing complexity and increasing testability access for engineers using an OTP solution today. Because Impinj’s AEON/FTP product targets applications that are already shipping in the billions of units and in markets expected to grow rapidly over the next 3–5 years, the impact could be significant."

Impinj leveraged the innovative technology found in the AEON/MTP product family, already shipped in more than 800 million ICs worldwide, to create AEON/FTP, which features:

  • 100 write-erase cycle endurance
  • 10-year data retention at 125 °C
  • Compatibility with standard logic CMOS with no extra masks or processing steps
  • Support for bit counts from 64 bits up to 16k bits
  • Single voltage supply operation
  • Full Program and Read operation from -40 °C to +125 °C
  • Fully integrated high voltage and control circuitry

Impinj tests AEON/FTP to the same high quality and reliability standards as the entire AEON product family. Customers receive a fully characterized and qualified hard IP block including GDSII, Verilog model, and production test flow documentation.
