Impinj Speedway Gen 2 RFID Reader Debuts in Europe
Certified for European Communications Standards; Ramping to Volume Production for High-performance Retail, Pharmaceutical and other Supply Chain Applications
Seattle, WA March 14, 2007 - Leading semiconductor and RFID technology provider Impinj, Inc. today announced certification of the high-performance Speedway™ Gen 2 RFID reader for operation under rules of the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI). Impinj's Speedway reader complies with the European Union's stringent Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) guidelines and also carries the CE mark, indicating compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental regulations in Europe.
Certified to comply with the ETSI EN 302-208 standard governing interoperability and performance of RFID devices in Europe, Impinj's Speedway reader maintains the same high levels of performance when operating in Europe as the Speedway reader platform deployed in large-scale distribution and supply chain environments in North America. Impinj demonstrated evidence of the Speedway reader's high performance while operating in compliance with European regulations by achieving breakthrough results in operational tests conducted in October 2006 at an RFID-enabled distribution center in Unna, Germany.
"We are very excited to build on the results of certification and operational tests and begin full-scale Speedway reader deployments in Europe," said Dimitri Desmons, vice president of RFID marketing at Impinj. "We are experiencing significant demand in numerous market segments and look forward to providing European RFID users with the only UHF reader that performs equally well from pallet and case tagging to item tagging applications using far-field or near-field modes of operation."
