Impinj's Monza™ Tag Silicon to Power First-Ever EPCglobal™ Compliant Gen 2 RFID System

Impinj, Inc., the Self-Adaptive Silicon® company, today announced the availability of Monza™, its EPCglobal™ Generation 2 (Gen 2) compliant RFID tag silicon, the first to fully support all features of the Gen 2 specification and allow customers to obtain maximum system performance. Monza will be demonstrated for the first time at the RFID Journal Live! Conference in Chicago on April 10-12, 2005.

Seattle, WA April 8, 2005 - Impinj, Inc., the Self-Adaptive Silicon® company, today announced the availability of Monza™, its EPCglobal™ Generation 2 (Gen 2) compliant RFID tag silicon, the first to fully support all features of the Gen 2 specification and allow customers to obtain maximum system performance. Monza will be demonstrated for the first time at the RFID Journal Live! Conference in Chicago on April 10-12, 2005.

Impinj's Monza chips provide all of the benefits promised by the Gen 2 protocol, including superior tag readability and throughput, compliance with global spectrum regulations, 96-bit EPC identification and enhanced security, privacy and robustness. Monza chips also feature industry-leading read and write range, high-speed field rewritability and orientation insensitivity when used in Impinj's unique dual antenna configuration. In keeping with Impinj's high quality standards, Monza chips are 100% factory tested and exhibit excellent RF impedance and ESD protection characteristics, which are critical for ensuring superior inlay manufacturability at the highest assembly speeds.

Monza-based Gen 2 RFID inlays are available immediately in sample quantities from several Impinj partners including Avery Dennison (NYSE:AVY), IER, KSW Microtec, Precisia, RSI and UPM Rafsec.

Impinj is also working closely with leading RFID reader manufacturers and has demonstrated interoperability between Monza-powered RFID inlays and Gen 2 readers from AWID, Intermec, SAMsys (TSX:SMY) and Thingmagic.

"We are pleased that the top RFID solution providers have chosen to support Impinj's Monza tag chips and the Gen 2 standard," said Dr. William Colleran, president and CEO, Impinj. "This multi-vendor approach is good news for our customers because they benefit from the proven performance of Impinj's RFID chip technology and the freedom to choose other preferred vendors for inlays, tags, software and readers."

Impinj's Monza Gen 2 tag silicon will be available in production quantities late in the second quarter of this year. The company recently introduced the GrandPrix™ solution, the first RFID system to support all features of the Gen 2 specification including the Impinj Speedway™ reader platform with dense reader capability. Additional Impinj RFID products include ZumaRFID™ silicon, the world's first EPCglobal Class 0 RFID chip with high-speed, long-range data rewritability. Now available in production-volume quantities, ZumaRFID supports 96 and 128-bit EPC codes with up to 112 additional bits of lockable user memory and includes consumer privacy features such as the ability to disable or "kill" fielded tags under consumer control. Impinj works with industry-leading partners to provide tags, inlays and readers for complete RFID solutions.

About Gen 2

The EPCglobal Gen 2 protocol, destined to quickly become the leading RFID specification for the UHF band centered around 900 MHz, overcomes the many limitations of EPCglobal's legacy Class 0 and Class 1 solutions. Gen 2 provides a comprehensive framework with enhanced features and improved performance such as operation in high-density reader environments, compliance with global regulations, superior tag readability, fast read rates, field rewriteability, and enhanced security and privacy.
