Supply chain operators rely on audits to catch inbound shipping errors and are exposed to charge-backs for outbound shipping errors. Adding RAIN RFID tags to pallets, cases, and items allows retailers to verify operations at every step in the process of moving goods from manufacturers into stores and even into the customers’ hands.

RAIN RFID can identify pallets, cases, and items with high reliability at high speed. But there are also challenges associated with defining and managing read zones and distinguishing between meaningful business events and stray reads.

The Impinj platform helps solve these problems through zone definitions and algorithms that identify events that are meaningful to the business.

How it Works

1

Attach Impinj-powered RAIN RFID tags to pallets, cases, or items.

2

Use Impinj readers/gateways at shipping or receiving points to wirelessly identify and locate items in all company facilities.

3

Connect Impinj ItemSense software to warehouse management or order management systems to validate incoming and outgoing shipments and provide electronic proof of delivery.

Retailers today must provide shoppers with access to all inventory  at all times. The Impinj platform uses RAIN RFID to help retailers meet this challenge with visibility across the supply chain:

  • Inbound Verification
Verify accurate shipments are received from manufacturers or distributors. Catching errors in receiving is less costly and disruptive than catching them during outbound operations; and empowers the receiver to issue charge-backs or demand corrective actions from their suppliers.
  • Outbound Validation
Picking and shipping errors have real financial impacts. They can cause customers to increase audits or issue charge-backs. And, when the customer is a consumer, the retailer’s or brand’s reputation is at risk. The Impinj platform can audit every outgoing shipment in real-time, catching and preventing shipping errors. Outbound validation can include checking the contents of cases at the item-level, ensuring that the right cases are being bundled onto a pallet and validating that the right pallets are being loaded onto the right truck.
