ThingMagic RFID Modules Deliver Max Performance in a Tiny Package
The M7E series of five reader modules from Impinj partner JADAK delivers a wide range of performance options for today's smallest RAIN RFID reading devices.
The popularity of small RAIN RFID readers is growing, and so is the need for equally compact embedded modules that power these readers. Impinj partner JADAK, a Novanta company, is meeting this demand with its ThingMagic M7E UHF RAIN RFID Module Series, a family of small-footprint, high-performing RAIN RFID reader modules designed specifically for today’s smaller RAIN RFID readers.
The five new modules are ideal for battery-operated, low-cost, small form-factor and portable RAIN RFID readers that are used to identify and track items in industries such as retail, healthcare, and manufacturing. These include handheld RFID readers, wearable RFID devices, smart vending machines, and more.
Small RFID readers are critical in use cases such as locating tools and assets in fast-moving manufacturing facilities, identifying expired medications in smart medical cabinets at hospitals, and other jobs that require tracking items with high performance and pinpoint accuracy. The ThingMagic M7E series is a natural fit for these applications.
Built using Impinj E family RAIN RFID reader chips, the ThingMagic M7E series boasts low power consumption, allowing for longer use between battery charges. JADAK chose Impinj reader chips because of the Impinj E family's proven quality, said Harinath Reddy, vice president of technology and business development for Novanta Precision Medicine, a division of JADAK’s parent company.
“The quality of the Impinj E family is solid,” Reddy said. “The chips are performing as expected and they’ve proven themselves by their low failure rate.”
Multiple performance levels for maximum design flexibility
The five M7E modules differ in their read rates and power outputs, allowing device manufacturers and solution providers the flexibility to select a module with the precise performance level they need. And because the modules are so small, developers can add the modules to barcode scanners and other non-RFID devices, giving them RAIN RFID functionality.
A custom approach to reader solutions
Unlike off-the-shelf solution providers, JADAK takes an “engineer-to-engineer" approach to helping solve its customers’ challenges. JADAK team members work directly with customers to gain a deep understanding of their specific needs and create a solution that is a precise fit for the job at hand.
For example, instead of using different module types for each drawer in a smart medical cabinet, JADAK engineers can specify a single module type for all drawers — for instance, the M7E-DEKA — and simply swap the modules’ Impinj E310, E510, or E710 RAIN RFID reader chips based on performance needs. This custom approach helps customers maximize efficiency while avoiding unnecessary complexity and costs.
Seamless integration and comprehensive support
The M7E series is supported by the ThingMagic Mercury API, which is used across all ThingMagic products. This means the M7E series is compatible and interchangeable with ThingMagic’s previous-generation M6E series of modules. The standardized API also makes it easy to upgrade a reader module if a faster read rate is required.
JADAK offers a full line of technical and engineering support – including online self-help, video calls, and in-person consultations – to ensure ThingMagic M7E reader modules integrate with customers’ existing products and systems.
The Impinj platform can help industries such as retail, manufacturing and automotive, healthcare, and others, improve their operations. Read more about RAIN RFID and how the Impinj platform can help your company work smarter and more efficiently.
