New RAIN RFID Tag Chip Package for Industry 4.0
Impinj partner NedCard has announced the MicroSON®-3, its first RAIN RFID package for industrial uses like work-in-progress tracking and asset management.
Impinj partner NedCard has announced its first RAIN RFID package: the MicroSON®-3 SMD for industrial applications, such as Work-in-Progress tracking and asset management. The MicroSON®-3 is a Small Outline No-leads (SON) plastic package that can be embedded into a printed circuit board (PCB).

The MicroSON®-3 is small and very thin, yet robust enough to withstand harsh industrial processes and temperatures as high as 85°C (185°F). The small size of the MicroSON®-3 design makes it a perfect package for leading RAIN RFID tag chips like the Impinj Monza® R6-P.
RAIN RFID for the Industrial Sector
“RFID-enabled tracking in industrial applications helps companies automate item identification and data capture to improve quality, efficiency, and work processes,” said Frans Geurts, CEO of NedCard. “RAIN RFID delivers tangible benefits to the industrial sector. Tracking reusable items and tools saves time and replacement costs. Even industrial work-in-progress can be identified and tracked using RFID technology.”
“NedCard is bringing new opportunities to industrial applications using RAIN RFID and the Impinj Monza R6-P tag chip,” said Carl Brasek, Impinj senior director of product management for silicon products. “We see tremendous demand for RAIN RFID among industrial customers and are working with NedCard to innovate on new products like the MicroSON®-3 package for the industrial market.”
Partnering for Success in Demanding Applications
The Impinj Monza R6-P tag chip, combined with the MicroSON®-3 package, delivers excellent performance in industrial applications. The Impinj AutoTune™ feature enables consistent performance from a wide variety of tagged materials, including plastics, polymers, wood, and metals. Manufacturers can also assign product identification numbers to the tag thanks to the increased user memory in the Impinj Monza R6-P tag chip.
