Impinj summer interns share their journeys, highlight the valuable connections they've made, and discuss their professional growth at Impinj.
The Impinj summer internship program introduces college students to real-world technology challenges through hands-on projects, mentorship, and professional networking opportunities in a dynamic and supportive environment. We asked our interns a series of questions about their experience at Impinj. Read what they had to say.
What inspired you to apply for an internship at Impinj, and how has your experience met your expectations so far?
Aishwarya Choorakuzhiyil, platform engineering intern, master's in electrical engineering, University of Washington
Impinj is probably one of the most well-suited companies when it comes to gaining exemplary experience in the domain of RF systems. RAIN RFID deals with wireless communications, critical thinking, a ton of signal processing, wireless channel modelling, antenna design, et cetera, all of which are directly aligned to my specialty.
Kyra Lu, reader firmware engineering intern, master’s in computer science, Northeastern University
I was inspired to intern for Impinj because of its mission to “Connect Everything.” My experience so far at Impinj has been incredible. My team is genuinely supportive and welcoming, and I like this collaborative and friendly atmosphere.
How would you describe the Impinj internship program and the company culture?
Aishwarya Harikumar, marketing intern, master’s in engineering management, University of Southern California
Impinj's internship program is fantastic — truly supportive and designed for us to excel. The culture here is very welcoming, encouraging learning and growth. We engage in various activities like mentorship programs, team building, and leadership talks which are great for understanding the company better and enhancing our skills.
Saikripa Mohan, software test and quality intern, master’s in data science, University of Washington
The internship program is well designed to encourage interaction with a lot of people outside your core team. Weekly leadership connections provide a different perspective of the company and offer a lot of valuable information about career growth. The company culture is extremely warm and welcoming, and people are ready to offer help and advice.
Sara Reyes, platform engineering intern, PhD in electrical engineering, University of Washington
I think the internship program is great because it exposes interns to all facets of the company through the tours and the leadership connection sessions. I would describe the company culture as “connected.” Everyone has been so kind and open to chatting or helping in any way that they can; it really makes me feel connected.
What specific skills or practices have you developed or improved upon during your internship at Impinj, and how do you envision applying them in your future endeavors?
Supreeth Nimmagadda, procurement intern, master’s in supply chain management, University of Texas, Dallas
During my internship at Impinj, I have significantly developed my skills in process mapping, data analysis, and business process automation. I have also enhanced my ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present insights through data visualization dashboards. I envision applying these skills in future roles to drive efficiency and innovation in procurement and supply chain management.
William Travis, platform development engineering intern, master’s in computer science and engineering, University of Washington
This internship has been very helpful in improving both general and very specific skills. Learning to work on a software engineering team with a specific development workflow is a skill that cannot be learned any way other than doing it — but is essential to a career as a software engineer. On the more specific side, I learned a great deal about networking as well as interservice communication on a device — both skills that I expect to be very useful on future projects.
Manya Chadha, silicon process engineer intern, master’s in data science, University of Washington
A major highlight of my internship experience has been the ability to connect with people from all over the company. It has increased my knowledge of the company, the product, and the vision by tenfold and has given me the opportunity to build my network through the mentor program, leadership connection sessions, and the company picnic — because nothing connects people more than good food and giant Jenga!
What project are you working on at Impinj?
Emma Tran, silicon engineering intern, bachelor’s in electrical engineering, University of Washington
I am on the digital design team. My current project involves enhancing workflow related to test reporting through continuous integration. Due to recent system changes, we lost several test reporting functionalities, and my goal was to restore them in a user-friendly manner.
Mahvash Maghrabi, software development engineering intern (hired as full-time software development engineer at Impinj), master’s in computer science, Northeastern University
I work on the data platforms team, currently focusing on the Data Loader project. This project involves converting standard binary format files into data that can be loaded into a database. In simpler terms, we take raw data files, process them, and make them usable for database integration.
What advice would you give to future interns joining Impinj so they can make the most of their experience?
Nikhil Vaidyanath, silicon engineering intern, junior, bachelor's in computer engineering, Purdue University
I would recommend that interns learn what everyone is doing. I love asking team members about what they’re working on and learn so much in the process.
Prateeti Ugale, advanced technology intern, PhD in fiber and polymer science, North Carolina State University
I highly recommend that the interns promptly visit the Fairview and Beacon Hill offices in Seattle, as this will be immensely beneficial for understanding the Impinj products and processes. It is essential to communicate effectively with your peers both within and outside your group. Lastly, do not hesitate to ask questions, as this is crucial for your learning and development.
At Impinj, we are dedicated to nurturing talent. The Impinj summer intern program not only helps interns develop professional skills and connections but also offers them the chance to apply these skills in real-world scenarios. Impinj internships cover various domains including marketing, procurement, silicon processing, software and hardware engineering. For more details, please visit the Impinj careers page.
