Impinj's Zuma™ RFID Silicon Available for High Volume Production
Long-range, High-Speed, Rewritable Chips Significantly Improve RFID System Performance
Seattle, WA September 13, 2004 - Impinj, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company whose patented Self-Adaptive Silicon® technology enables its high performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products, today announced the availability of its Zuma™ RFID silicon in production-volume quantities.
Developed to provide the trillion-dollar worldwide packaged goods industry with a higher performance and more cost-effective RFID alternative, Zuma is the world's first EPCglobal Class 0 silicon to provide many features anticipated in the Generation 2 specification. Now available in volume quantities, Zuma supports long-range rewritability with up to 144 bits of lockable user memory and includes consumer privacy features such as the ability to disable or "kill" fielded tags under consumer control. In addition, Zuma chips are the first to fulfill the requirement for effective RFID "print-and-apply" applications by allowing data to be written to tags at high speed.
Impinj supplies Zuma chips to many leading tag and inlay companies, enabling high performance RFID solutions worldwide. Recent pilot programs demonstrate Zuma's superiority over competing solutions and validate Zuma's long range, high speed and robust performance, setting Impinj apart on difficult-to-tag items such as those with high moisture or metal content.
"The move toward the RFID-enabled retail supply chain cannot happen without volume production of high-performance RFID chips like Zuma," said Dr. William Colleran, Impinj president and CEO. "We are extremely pleased that customers appreciate the performance advantages that our Zuma tag silicon delivers, and with production now underway, Impinj is well-positioned to support the accelerating RFID adoption."
