Impinj Announces Interoperability of Zuma™ EPC Class 0 Silicon with 15 RFID Developers

Impinj, Inc., the fabless semiconductor company whose patented Self-Adaptive Silicon® technology enables its high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products, today announced that its Zuma™ RFID chips, which conform to the increasingly popular EPCglobal Class 0 standard, are interoperable with key products from 15 RFID supply chain solutions providers.

Seattle, WA September 28, 2004 - Impinj, Inc., the fabless semiconductor company whose patented Self-Adaptive Silicon® technology enables its high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products, today announced that its Zuma™ RFID chips, which conform to the increasingly popular EPCglobal Class 0 standard, are interoperable with key products from 15 RFID supply chain solutions providers.

With Impinj silicon as the common element, RFID inlay, tag, printer and reader providers including Avery Dennison (NYSE:AVY), AWID, CCL Label, IER, KSW Microtec, Precisia, Printronix (NASDAQ:PTNX), RF IDentics, SAMsys (TSX:SMY), SATO America, SIRIT (TSX:SI), Telenexus, ThingMagic, UPM Rafsec, and WJ Communications (NASDAQ:WJCI) are all able to demonstrate interoperability against the EPCglobal Candidate Recommendation for Class 0 version 1.0.0.

"This is great news for the RFID industry," said Mike Liard, RFID Research Program Director, Venture Development Corporation. "Until now, Class 0 was essentially a single-company standard, but interoperability between preferred inlay, tag and reader vendors is a requirement for continued industry momentum. With this announcement from Impinj, it is clear that there are multiple sources of Class 0 tags, readers, and printer solutions that give customers more options."

Several reader and printer companies are also supporting Impinj's write commands to supplement standard EPC Class 0 features, as requested by supply chain customers, with the ability to write data into lockable user memory locations at long range and high speed.

"We are pleased that the top RFID solution providers have chosen to support the EPCglobal Class 0 standard," said Dr. William Colleran, president and CEO, Impinj. "This multi-vendor approach is good news for our customers because they benefit from the proven performance of Impinj's Zuma™ RFID chip technology and the freedom to choose other preferred vendors for inlays, tags, software and readers."
