ANNOUNCING MONZA™ 3 CHIPS
We have been busy testing Monza 3, our next generation silicon, and are happy to announce that the test results demonstrate exceptional performance. Monza 3 outperforms the competition by a wide margin in all areas—including key specifications such as read sensitivity, write sensitivity, and interference rejection. This outstanding performance enables a new era of RFID deployment in:

  • Pallet/case-level tagging: Monza 3’s outstanding receive sensitivity and interference rejection capabilities far exceed other solutions on the market, making real world deployments work better than ever.
  • Item-level tagging: Monza 3’s write sensitivity performs at unprecedented levels—better than the write sensitivity of many competitive products in the UHF market—facilitating an entirely new class of item-level applications, such as bulk encoding and real-time field commissioning.
  • Application flexibility: Monza 3 is still the only dual-antenna, high-performance chip on the market, giving end users the widest variety of antenna configurations and application options.
  • Renowned quality: With support from our partners, we test and manufacture Monza 3 chips to the same rigorous standards that have made our field-proven Monza chips the most reliable product in the UHF market.
Impinj will supply the industry’s leading inlay and label suppliers with production tag chips by early summer.

SPEEDWAY® READER'S OCTANE™ 3.0 FIRMWARE RELEASE
We’re pleased to announce the official release of the Octane™ 3.0 firmware for Impinj’s Speedway® UHF Gen 2 RFID reader. Along with the reader features you’ve come to expect from Impinj, our Speedway reader’s Octane 3.0 firmware, now available in general release, contains many exciting new capabilities:

  • A Tag Direction algorithm that creates actionable read events by sensing and reporting tag directionality through a read zone using off-the-shelf reader antennas and UHF Gen tags with EPCglobal interoperability certification. See the tag direction video for more information.
  • Industry leading support of the EPCglobal LLRP (Low Level Reader Protocol) standard.
    • The current Speedway reader platform will continue to support Impinj’s MACH1™ API, but new features such as Tag Direction are available exclusively through LLRP.
  • Dramatically improved read performance on large and/or hard-to-read tag populations.
    • Patent-pending AutoSet modes deliver the highest, most reliable read performance, even in challenging and changing environments, by dynamically sensing the operating environment and automatically selecting optimal reader configurations.
    • A new Inventory search mode, “Single Target Inventory with Suppression,” finds and reads weak uninventoried tags instead of repeatedly reading the strongest tags.
  • A Low Duty Cycle mode that limits the amount of time the Speedway reader is transmitting—clearing the air of unnecessary RF noise and reducing overall power consumption.
  • Continued industry leading, enterprise class management and monitoring capabilities with the addition of support for the EPCglobal Reader Management (RM) standard and SNMPv2 MIB-II.
  • New regional support for China.
The Octane 3.0 firmware upgrade, latest MultiReader™ software, and the Speedway reader user guide are available on the Impinj Support Portal. Additional developer resources can be downloaded from the Impinj Developer Portal. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by opening a ticket on the Impinj Support Portal.

We will be providing new feature education and demonstrating how Octane features enable new markets and can win you more business. If you would like to discuss Octane firmware in-depth or participate in our training sessions, please email rfidtraining@impinj.com.

DID YOU KNOW:
HOW TO MITIGATE INTERFERENCE EFFECTS
Failing to grasp the effects of interference on RFID system operation can lead to situations where either solutions do not work at optimal performance levels, or fail to meet requirements. The good news is that many interference mitigation methods exist—allowing robust system deployments, even in very noisy RF environments. To learn more, read Impinj’s white paper on RFID communication and interference.
