NOW AT IMPINJ: INDY™ R1000 READER CHIP
We're excited to announce that Impinj recently acquired Intel®'s reader chip business, including the popular R1000. Renamed the Impinj Indy™ R1000, this reader chip complements our existing product portfolio, providing the RFID market access to a full suite of UHF Gen 2 RFID products, including Monza™ tag silicon, Speedway® readers and application-specific reader antennas.

The R1000 enjoys broad adoption worldwide, and enables significant innovation in reader products from short-range embedded modules to long-range dock door readers. The R1000 also provides a rich development environment and broad compatibility with enterprise software applications. We will apply our expertise in RFID systems, semiconductors, high-performance reader design, and real-world installations to the reader chip product line to both advance reader chip capabilities, and help our customers better address rapidly evolving end-user applications.

REAL-WORLD STUDY SHOWS NO RFID EFFECT ON HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT
According to a study completed in March 2008 by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), RFID devices do not "interfere with or influence the performance of commonly used medical devices such as physiological monitors and intravenous pumps in general patient care rooms." Accepted for publication in the August issue of Biomedical Instrumentation and Technology, the study reports that no interference was detected in 1,600 tests conducted in a patient room at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. Researchers used the patient room to test for interference with pumps, non-invasive blood pressure monitors, pulse oximetry monitors, EKG monitors and sequential compression devices using two common RFID antennas, near field and far field. Impinj responded to a request for equipment to use as part of the study, but did not participate in, or otherwise influence the results. The full report, "Testing Potential Interference with RFID Usage in the Patient Care Environment," can be downloaded from BlueBean's website or http://www.bluebeanrfid.com/EmailFreeReport.aspx.

LOS ANGELES MARATHON

IMPINJ TECHNOLOGY WINS AT THE FINISH LINE
The LA Marathon saved time, money, and equipment by deploying ChronoTrack System's race timing solution powered by Impinj technology.

“Our third party timing verifier told us it was the most accurate timing method he'd ever seen, and he compared it against the same method used to time the Olympics. Both race setup and clean up were much easier-hours instead of days, we needed fewer volunteers and far less equipment. We easily saved between fifteen and twenty thousand dollars, had a smoother race operation, and heard nothing but praise from race participants.”
