Impinj and MD Sign Agreement to Deploy RFID in Spain and Portugal

High-Performance Readers and Tags to Enhance Garment Inventory Management in Retail Setting

SEATTLE, Wash., March 14, 2007 -- Leading UHF Gen 2 radio frequency identification (RFID) chip and reader supplier Impinj, Inc. today announced an agreement with leading European industrial identification systems provider MD Soluciones de Identificación (MD),to deploy RFID-enabled supply chain solutions in Spain and Portugal.

Under the agreement, MD will oversee large-scale installations of Impinj's GrandPrix™ UHF Gen 2 RFID solution, including the enterprise-wide, multi-million tag chip deployment currently underway at Spanish dairy giant, Grupo Leche Pascual. In addition, MD will distribute Impinj's Speedway™ RFID readers in the Spanish and Portuguese markets.

Successfully deployed in large distribution centers and retail stores worldwide, the GrandPrix solution, comprising Impinj's Monza™ tag chips and Speedway readers, addresses the most important RFID deployment criteria for demanding supply chain and item-level environments — high tag throughput rates, high read and programming reliability, and secure track-and-trace capability.

"We believe that the technology being developed by Impinj includes the features the market needs to implement RFID on a massive scale in the supply chain," said Santiago Depares, president of MD.

MD has invested over 1.2 million euros ($1.58 million) in developing and implementing RFID technology, and expects this investment to increase to 6 million euros in the next four years. MD has implemented more than 11,400 installations in over 4,750 businesses and estimates that 60,000 products are identified with its equipment every minute.

"Impinj is pleased to partner with MD to bring the highest performance UHF Gen 2 RFID products for pallet, case, and item tagging to key end users in Spain and Portugal," said Dr. Chris Diorio, chairman and co-founder of Impinj. "MD and Impinj have successfully introduced RFID technology solutions that allow customers to deploy Gen 2 RFID in large-scale rollouts with a clear and compelling ROI."

The Impinj GrandPrix solution supports pallet and case-level tracking applications and is also ideal for item-level tracking of pharmaceuticals, apparel, CD/DVDs and many other high-value products. Monza chips and Speedway readers carry EPCglobal's Gen 2 Conformance Certification and Interoperability Certification marks. The Speedway reader is certified for operation in Europe under the rules of the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI). It also carries the CE mark, indicating compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental regulations in Europe, and complies with the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) guidelines.
