Impinj Names Communications Chip Industry Veteran to Head Marketing and Sales
SEATTLE, Wash. — October 21, 2002—Impinj, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company commercializing its patented Self-Adaptive Silicon technology, today announced it has named Vinay Gokhale as its vice president of marketing and sales. Gokhale joins the highly acclaimed start-up from Conexant Systems and will report directly to company president and CEO William Colleran. Gokhale will oversee productization and marketing of Impinj's patented Self-Adaptive Silicon technology that uses fundamentally new tunable transistors to enable high performance analog and RF chip designs in low-cost, high-density logic CMOS processes. The technology addresses significant challenges associated with developing mixed-signal system-on-chips (SOCs) in standard manufacturing processes and promises to allow analog and mixed-signal design to scale with Moore's Law.
Gokhale's responsibilities include positioning Impinj's technology for maximum market impact, coordinating and managing the launch of Impinj's products, building a global sales strategy, and assisting in partnership development efforts.
"I am truly excited about the opportunity with Impinj to bring such a breakthrough technology to the mixed-signal market, and to help expand the potential of Self-Adaptive Silicon into other exciting market opportunities and applications. I am impressed with the traction and support Impinj already has in the market, and the time is right to take it to the next level. It is one of those rare chances to make a dramatic impact on an industry," Gokhale said. "I believe my experience and network in the semiconductor industry will be a valuable asset to the company as it rolls out its first products."?
At Conexant, Gokhale held the position of vice president and business unit director of the company's wireless data business unit. He also helped launch the company's GPS and CDMA RF product lines and was involved in several acquisitions and investments as part of Conexant's venture funding program during his seven years there. Prior to Conexant, Gokhale worked as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, and as a principle engineer at Vartec. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Irvine, and an MBA from Stanford University.
"We are excited to have someone of Vinay's caliber and experience join us at such an important time in Impinj's evolution," said CEO Colleran. "I anticipate he will make immediate contributions as we take our initial customer and partner discussions to the next level of engagement."
