Tagsys Develops Reusable RFID Baggage Tag for Quantas [with Impinj technology]

Tagsys has announced that Australian airline Qantas has deployed a reusable baggage RFID tag using Tagsys' technology as part of the carrier's Next Generation airport check-in system. Made with Impinj's Monza 4 RFID chip, the tag is encased in a custom-built plastic housing designed by Australian designer Marc Newson, and is produced by creative product agency Buzz Products.

Vancouver Hotel Tracks an Olympic Quantity of Washable Items

When the new Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel opened last week in Vancouver, B.C., just in time for the Winter Olympics, it had technology in place for tracking 35,000 textile items, including bed sheets, uniforms, towels, tablecloths and bathrobes. The system consists of washable EPC Gen 2 passive RFID tags from Fujitsu, RFID interrogators provided by Impinj and software from Foundation Logic, a provider of RFID-enabled linen-management solutions. The hotel is employing the system to track more than 8,500 items weekly as they are laundered and returned.

Labs Use EPC Gen 2 Tags to Manage Biological Samples

Two biomedical research laboratories that store human biological matter are using an RFID-based system to enable the tracking of frozen tissue and cells, as well as hazardous matter, while minimizing the need for lab personnel to handle the substances. The system, known as FreezerPro, is provided by Frederick, Md. company RURO, and powered by Impinj RFID technology.
