GS1 Taiwan Pushes for EPCglobal E-seal Standard

Passive electronic seals (e-seals) have become increasingly popular for transportation and logistics, because they are disposable, low-cost and battery-free. But there is no existing standard for passive e-seals. GS1 Taiwan is now calling for GS1's RFID division, EPCglobal, to create a new standard for passive e-seals based on Electronic Product Code (EPC) technology.

A few weeks ago we told you about Coca-Cola's soda "fountain of the future," which alows consumers to choose from over 100 varieties of teas, juices and soft drinks and even make unusual combinations such as Fanta Peach and Raspberry Coke. RFID chips from Impinj are being used in the device to monitor, track and maintain the dispenser operations, as well as provide analytics on what people are drinking.

Coke's RFID-Based Dispensers Redefine Business Intelligence

Coca-Cola doesn't think its customers have enough drink choices. So starting this summer, diners at some California, Georgia, and Utah fast-food joints will get to try a self-serve drink dispenser that pours more than 100 varieties of sodas, juices, teas, and flavored waters. Coke plans to roll out the Freestyle drink dispenser nationwide, eventually putting tens of thousands of them in places such as McDonald's, Burger King, and Willy's Mexican Grill.

Ontario's new RFID driver's licence still has privacy flaws, commissioner says

The enhanced driver's licences being made available in Ontario June 1 still aren't up to snuff when it comes to protecting personal privacy, says Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner in her annual report. Ann Cavoukian has been working towards adding an off-switch to the enhanced licenses. It won't be on the first batch of licences, but she hasn't given up hope.
